In my view, consent is a completely essential starting point for any intimate interaction.  Asking for consent is not only respectful and morally correct; it is also a loving thing to do. From personal experience, nothing makes one feel more insignificant then a non-consensual experience with another person. Asking for consent does not ‘ruin the mood’; it sets it in a beautiful way. Asking for consent is a basic recognition of the wonder and importance of the other, and only enhances the richness of any intimate encounter. The importance of consent cannot be understated and should be ingrained in our young people from an early age through setting a standard we all agree on and adhere to.
