An Opportunity to be Proactive when it comes to the Prevention of Child Abuse

The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre(DRCC) wants to support Pamela Izevbekhi and her two daughters Naomi and Jemima in their efforts to remain in this country. Wednesday November 19 is the World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse and we urgently call on Dermot Ahern, Minister for Justice Equality and Law Reform, to intervene on their behalf on this very important day.

Ellen O’Malley-Dunlop, Chief Executive of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC) said: “Minister Dermot Ahern has an opportunity to mark this day of World Prevention of Child Abuse by granting Pamela Izevbekhi and her two daughters, permission to remain in Ireland. Their family has suffered enough. They already have lost a daughter and a sibling to forced female genital mutilation (FGM). We would urge Mr. Ahern to take a stand for Mrs. Izevbekhi and her daughters and in so doing, demonstrate all of our abhorrence for this inhuman practice. It would also be an opportunity to say to those who have been the victims of childhood abuse that we as a Nation will not tolerate this crime in our society or in any other society and we are prepared to be proactive in its prevention.”
