At last the Children’s Voices have been heard – Their Rights must be enshrined in our Constitution
27 October 2010
If we ever needed confirmation of the necessity to enshrine the Rights of the Child in our Constitution, the HSE Report published today on the Roscommon Childcare Case, unequivocally gives us that confirmation.
Ellen O’Malley-Dunlop, Chief Executive, DRCC said “We acknowledge the request in the report by Norah Gibbons and the Inquiry Team to be fully cognisant of the effect that reporting and commenting on this case has on each and every one of the children and young people concerned. They must be commended for their courage and tenacity and we respect that they now need to be allowed the privacy to grow and develop as children and young people.
The HSE has apologised unreservedly to the six children involved in this case and has accepted in full the findings and recommendation of the inquiry. The next and crucial steps must be the implementation of the recommendations of this Inquiry so that we never again have to witness any more of our children enduring what these six children endured.
We welcome this report and we commend Norah Gibbons and the Inquiry Team for delivering such an extensive and professional report in the time frame afforded them.”
