DRCC is pleased to present a free two-day training course designed to prepare and support interpreters providing services for migrants, refugees and asylum seekers who have been affected by sexual violence. The course runs on two consecutive days, Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 November, from 9:30am to 1:30pm.

The training will address social beliefs around sexual violence, the impact of sexual violence on a person, and key points in the legal process when a person reports an experience of sexual violence.

The principles and ethics of interpreting will be explored alongside issues which might arise in specific situations, such as Sexual Assault Treatment Units, Garda Stations, the Courts, and Counselling sessions.

Finally, the training will look at the impact of vicarious traumatization on the interpreter and strategies for self-care. A Certificate of Attendance will be provided to participants who complete the two-day programme. ISL interpreting will be provided.

The training is presented in conjunction with the JUSTISIGNS2 project, a collaboration of experts from Ireland, Belgium, Spain and the UK undertaking research within the Deaf, migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking communities to investigate experiences of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence and interactions with victim support agencies.
