DRCC Ceo Ellen O’Malley Dunlop presents TASC Annual Lecture

Reclaiming the Night, Reimagining the Day to Day – Towards a National Agenda for Ending Violence Against Women in Ireland”.

The TASC Annual Lecture is an event where we pause and reflect on some of the longer-term challenges to achieving TASC’s goal of a flourishing Irish society. Previous speakers have included Fr Peter McVerry, Prof James Galbraith, Prof Kathleen Lynch and Dr Mary Robinson – who have discussed themes such as homelessness, economics and climate justice – each of which has shone a light on a particular aspect of equality.

TASC is delighted that this year’s Annual Lecture will be delivered by Ms Ellen O’Malley-Dunlop, who will speak about the rise in violence against women in the context of the prolonged recession and high unemployment. This represents part of the deep social scarring resulting from the economic collapse. But, like homelessness and climate change, it is a complex social problem that long predates the crisis and requires sophisticated, holistic economic and social policy responses.

Ms O’Malley-Dunlop was appointed CEO of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC) in May 2006. She has also served as a member of the Task Force for Child and Family Support Agency at the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and as a member of the Board of the National Women’s Council of Ireland. She is a Psychotherapist and Group Analyst by profession, was formerly Chairperson of the Irish Council of Psychotherapy and she was a founder member and Director of the Irish Institute for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.

The 2013 TASC Annual Lecture will take place on Wednesday 27th November, in the Royal Irish Academy on Dawson Street. Doors will open at 6 pm, and we would ask people to be seated by 6.30 pm. The Lecture will be followed by a short wine reception.
