A 2-day online training programme for interpreters
Date: Wednesday 19th & Thursday 20th February 2025
Time: 9:30 – 13:30
Fee: €50 per person
ISL interpreting provided.
This training programme is designed to prepare and support interpreters providing services for migrants, refugees and asylum seekers who have been affected by sexual violence.
The training will address social beliefs around sexual violence, the impact of sexual violence on a person, and key points in the legal process when a person reports an experience of sexual violence.
The principles and ethics of interpreting will be explored alongside issues which might arise in specific situations, such as Sexual Assault Treatment Units, Garda Stations, the Courts, and Counselling sessions.
Finally, the training will look at the impact of vicarious traumatization on the interpreter and strategies for self-care.
The training approach is participative and experiential and will include lectures, group discussions, video footage, and case studies. Our training is provided within an ethos of care for participants, and with respect for the existing knowledge and expertise of those who attend the training. We are aware that the issues on which we provide training are powerful and sensitive and can resonate quite deeply. Our approach is participative and experiential, but invitational and without pressure and participants are encouraged and supported to take care towards themselves.
